On August 23, the 2023 RISC-V China Summit opened at the Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing, and Dr. He Ning, the Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Beijing ESWIN Computing Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "ESWIN Computing"), delivered a keynote speech at the main forum, sharing ESWIN Computing's achievements in R&D innovation, large-scale application and ecological promotion of RISC-V architecture IC and solutions. At the same time, ESWIN Computing also exhibited RISC-V architecture IC products used in multimedia, wireless connectivity, edge computing, automotive microcontrollers, automotive communication and other scenarios.
The third wave of semiconductors is coming, and the world is about to enter a new era of a new generation of wireless communication + cloud computing + big data + general artificial intelligence. The rapid development of technology is inseparable from the support of the underlying hardware, and the demand for IC products is showing an exponential growth trend. RISC-V architecture instructions have the advantages of open source, streamlining, modularization, and scalability, bringing low-cost, energy-efficient, flexible customization, and multi-type computing ICs that meet the needs of different scenarios, which are extremely suitable for the development needs of emerging markets.
Dr. He Ning delivered a speech at the main forum of the RISC-V Summit
Dr. He Ning said, “China and RISC-V have a mutually fulfilling relationship. From 2021 to 2027, China's RISC-V core shipments are expected to continue to account for about 50% of the world's total, which provides a fertile ground for the development of RISC-V. What’s more, the open-source nature of the RISC-V architecture is conducive to attracting outstanding developers from all over the world to contribute to its development, helping to break down the technical barriers of computing architecture, and injecting more vitality into the development of China's IC industry. ”
As a provider of next-generation computing architecture IC and solutions with RISC-V as the foundation, ESWIN Computing has been committed to the R&D, innovation, large-scale application and ecological promotion of RISC-V architecture IC and solutions since its establishment in 2019, possessing a mature RISC-V computing architecture, software and ecosystem technology platform, and a complete RISC-V capability closed loop.
Dr. He Ning shared that ESWIN Computing has a product matrix based on RISC-V, forming a full-chain capability with scenarios as the traction, from kernel customization development to product implementation, and then to large-scale promotion. From low power consumption and low cost to high cost performance, high energy efficiency and high performance, ESWIN's self-developed 32-bit and 64-bit serialized CPU IPs have been applied to nearly 40 products on a large scale, and are widely used in automotive, consumer electronics, display panels, white goods and industrial appliances.
In terms of software ecosystem, ESWIN Computing not only provides developers with software and hardware running platforms, but also provides necessary adaptation and support for the entire general software stack, as well as supporting the tool chain to facilitate customers' productization needs. Since October 2022, ESWIN Computing has contributed the accumulation of IC and software research and development to the open source community, and by August 2023, the number of officially accepted patches has rapidly increased to more than 100, and has been included in the main source code of AOSP (Android Open Source Project) and other open source communities such as Chromium, GNU, OpenSBI, OP-TEE and QEMU.
In recent years, RISC-V has made continuous breakthroughs in industrialization, continuously improved the ecosystem, gradually moving towards a broader application field, and is fully blossoming in popular tracks such as display panels, consumer electronics, automotive, and AI. Dr. He Ning said, "ESWIN Computing will continue to increase R&D investment in RISC-V, promote the large-scale application of products, and work with upstream and downstream industry chain partners to jointly help RISC-V become the third pole of global computing architecture."
